DOORS
When it comes to your front door and storm door, it represents the beauty of your home. If you have an old antique oak or walnut or cherry door that may stick when it gets warm or humid out try this simple trick. A can of burnt linsead oil at your local hardware or paint store may cost approximately $10.00. Purchase a semi-smooth sanding sponge in additon to the burnt linsead oil. Lightly sand the sides of the door and if possible the frame. Apply with a brush or rag the burnt linsead oil to the sides (style) of the door. This may make opening and closing the door alot easier. Take the time to use proper gloves and eye protection as well. While you are at it. Spray a tad of oil lubricant into the lock cyclinder to make it easy for the key too.
WINDOWS
To check to see if your windows are drafty is an easy task. First make sure the window tracks and sills are free of debris. Then close the window and lock them. With a candle, take around the entire window and window trim, very slowly. If the flame moves in a direction other then the movemnt of your hand moving the candle then you may have drafty windows. Simple solutions maybe caulking the exterior or installing new windows for your home.
PAINTING
Always have your primer tinted to the color of your top coat of paint. This will not only save you money for additional coats of paint but enhance the color of your choice of paint for your project.
GROUT FOR FLOOR AND WALLS
A quick way to keep the color of the grout is to use a non abrasive cleaner on your floor or wall grout. While this will remove dirt it will also keep the grout looking fresh in appearance. In addition we recommend for a home maintenance to re-seal your grout two (2) times a year. Its a very simple application that can be done in a small amount of time.
STAINING
When staining wood, remember that different types of wood will take stains differently. For example: Pine wood to Oak wood. The color and polyurethane could be a different shade. To prevent various colors its best to have it stained on sample wood products. Always ask for scrap/sample wood products to test your stain on them before applying to a new project.
